ARLA®-SIMSTATSteady-State Simulation of Torsional Vibration Systems (Rotating Machinery)
… Vehicle and Ship Drive Systems with Reciprocating
Engines Due to the close cooperation ARLA-ITI the software ARLA®-SIMSTAT is integrated as an add-on (ITI®-STAT) in the simulation package ITI®-SIM. However, the main features of ARLA®-SIMSTAT, which are described in more detail in the following section, are also good for the understanding of the ITI®-STAT product. SimulationX 3.0 and later versions integrate a new approach of the steady state simulation. ARLA®-SIMSTAT is a PC-based simulation software to calculate torsional vibrations of steady-state systems (powertrains) excited by reciprocating engines, compressors, pumps, propellers, or any other periodical function. In opposite to other simulation methods, where time-dependent calculations are carried out, ARLA®-SIMSTAT determines all angles, fluctuations, and torque responses at every station of the straight or branched vibration system depending on given periodical excitations (simulation in the frequency domain). Thus, the simulation results visualize the dynamic response functions for different speed steps (no static parts are considered!). For every speed step, a steady-state operation of the rotating machinery is assumed.
The excitation may change from one speed step to the other one. However, it is rather easy to simulate a wide speed domain depending on all relevant orders of the excitation function within an extremely short computation time. For example, it only takes some seconds (depending on the computer model) for a steady-state simulation from 800 to 6500 rpm engine speed. Due to the chosen algorithm, nonlinear system characteristics are not supported by this simulation technique. The software also produces the typical results of a critical speed analysis (analysis of excitability):
